Hizkia Pepijn was awarded the Holland Scholarship to study sculpture at Zokei University in Tokyo, where his interest in traditional craft and material practice deepened. After receiving his Bachelor of Art and Design from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, he worked as an artist assistant at Atelier Van Lieshout. He later continued to cultivate his metalworking practice through experience in the petrochemical industry as a pipefitter at Mourik Industries.

These seemingly different environments continue to inform his practice. The precision of construction, the knowledge held in materials, the logic of industrial systems, and the slower language of craft all become part of his way of thinking. Between the hand and the machine, the intimate and the monumental, Jansen looks for forms that can hold both physical presence and something less tangible: a sense of energy, memory, tension, or possibility.

His work ultimately asks how form can shape a space, and how a space can shape us in return.
